General aim

Students will become familiar with the most important areas of Hungarian grammar and vocabulary in the context of everyday situations.

During the course students will also learn how to find their way around the city of Budapest.

Students will have several opportunities to meet Hungarian students and also to take part in cultural events.
Course Material
10 units of Colloquial Hungarian by Jerry Payne *Routledge 1991* and materials written and prepared by the course instructors, especially developed for BSM students.

By the end of the course students should be able to understand how the language is working
• give and respond to introductions, greetings, etc.
• know numbers and tell the time
• read menus, order and pay in restaurants, cafes, etc.
• understand public transport (domestic and international), buy metro passes, bus tickets etc.
• ask about and buy simple everyday items
• ask for and understand simple directions
• ask about and buy tickets for theatres, cinemas, etc
